Chaos Beastmen

They do not march. They do not parley. They do not stop. The Beastmen are a tide of tusks and muscle that crashes over the Empire's forests — and once the howling starts, the only question is how many you can take down before they drag you under.

Chaos Beastmen

The Chaos Beastmen are a horde of feral, blood-soaked abominations born from the Warp-touched corruption of the Chaos God Khorne. Part human, part beast, they are mindless engines of slaughter whose only purpose is to rend, maul, and drown the world in gore. In the Warhammer Vermintide universe, they represent one of the most visceral and relentless enemy factions, swarming through the forests and wilderness of the Empire in waves that test every hero to their breaking point. Unlike the scheming Undead or the disciplined Chaos Legion, the Beastmen offer no negotiation, no lore-rich monologue, no strategic pause. They are pure, howling fury made flesh, and their presence in Vermintide's campaigns turns every forest path into a gauntlet of tusks, fangs, and brute-force carnage.

Lore & Background

In the grim dark fantasy of the Warhammer world, the Beastmen are not a civilization but a catastrophe. Spawned in the Warp-touched wilds by the bloodthirsty whispers of Khorne, they are a grotesque amalgamation of human consciousness twisted into animal savagery. Boar-headed brutes, wolf-limbed stalkers, bear-fisted brawlers — each variant is a different expression of the same underlying hunger: the need to kill, to feel the spray of hot blood, to howl at a sky that does not care. They have no cities, no trade, no culture beyond the pack. A Beastman chieftain rules not through law or lineage but through sheer dominance; the strongest fangs eat first, and the weak are trampled beneath hooves. Their loyalty to Khorne is not theological devotion but instinctual obedience — they are his living weapons, his hounds unleashed upon a world he despises. In the forests of the Empire, their howls echo through the pines, and the villagers lock their doors and pray to the Goddess that the horde passes them by. In Vermintide, the Beastmen embody the most primal threat the heroes face: no magic to counter, no riddle to solve, no parley to negotiate. They simply come, in numbers, with teeth, and they do not stop until the last hero is pinned beneath a wall of snarling muscle. It is a fight that demands the player to be as relentless and unthinking as the pack itself.

In Their Own Story

The pines of the Blackwood had been silent for three days. Then the silence broke. It started as a low growl, felt more in the chest than heard with the ears. The underbrush shuddered. One by one, they emerged from the fog — first the wolf-beasts, their matted fur still dripping with the rain, their jaws working with a wet, clicking hunger. Then the boar-charges, tusks the length of a short-sword, snorting and stamping the mud into a churned brown paste. And behind them all, the Chieftain: a mountain of bear-muscle and human malice, his fist the size of a barrel, his eyes two pits of red-gold Warp-light. The village of Kaldheim had twenty minutes, maybe less. The miller's daughter was already running, her bare feet slapping the cobblestones, the howls gaining on her like a second heartbeat. The village guard raised his crossbow with trembling hands and fired. The bolt struck the Chieftain's shoulder and buried itself in the meat — but the beast didn't flinch. It just turned its head, slow and deliberate, and let out a grunt that shook the air. The guard never got a second shot. The horde hit the palisade like a wave of bone and hatred, and within an hour, Kaldheim was nothing but splintered timber, torn cloth, and silence.

Reader's Guide

In Warhammer Vermintide, the Beastmen serve as the primary enemy faction of Act 2, where the campaign plunges the heroes into the dense, fog-choked forests of the Empire. Unlike the Undead or the Chaos Legion, the Beastmen are not a single coordinated army but a living pack, and the game reflects this through their swarm-heavy encounter design. You will face waves of smaller wolf-beasts and boar-charges that close distance quickly, punctuated by larger bear-beasts and the occasional Chieftain who acts as a mobile boss, forcing you to break their guard and exploit openings. Their hierarchy is simple and brutal: lesser beasts form the vanguard, mid-tier brutes apply pressure, and the Chieftain commands the field. In Vermintide 2, the Beastmen appear again in their own dedicated act, with expanded enemy variety and more aggressive AI patterns that punish players who linger too long in one spot. They are never allies, never neutral — in every act they appear, they are hostile, relentless, and numerous. Compared to broader Warhammer Fantasy canon, the game streamlines the Beastmen into a more uniform enemy type. In the tabletop and novel setting, Beastmen come in dozens of sub-species and can serve multiple Chaos Gods. Vermintide focuses on the Khorne-loyal, blood-crazed variants and emphasizes their role as a physical, close-range threat rather than a magical or strategic one. Their interaction with other factions in the game is minimal — they are rivals for territory, not collaborators. Where the Undead use ranged magic and the Legion uses disciplined formations, the Beastmen simply overwhelm through numbers and raw aggression, making Act 2 a distinctly different combat experience from the other chapters.
