Lore & Background
The Wizard's Lair campaign unfolds in the aftermath of the Skaven invasion of Ubersreik. The Grey Seer Rasknitt, a cunning and power-hungry Skaven sorcerer, has captured Sienna Fuegonasus, the Bright Wizard of the Ubersreik Five. He intends to use her mastery of Aqshy, the wind of fire, to fuel a warpstone-powered ritual that will unleash a devastating plague upon the Empire. The lair itself is an ancient elven tower, now corrupted by Skaven filth and warpstone—its once-graceful arches choked with crude scaffolding, its floors slick with ichor, and its halls echoing with the screams of tortured magic as Sienna’s flames are slowly drained into screaming green crystals.
In Their Own Story
The Ubersreik Five, battered but unbroken, track Rasknitt's trail into the haunted depths of Athel Loren. They find Sienna chained within a chamber of pulsating warpstone, her flames flickering and dim as the Skaven siphon her power into a vortex that twists the air. The heroes fight through waves of Skaven and corrupted elven guardians—stone sentinels animated by warpstone filth—finally confronting Rasknitt in a chamber where reality itself seems to warp, the floor cracking with green fire and the ceiling bleeding shadows. In a desperate gambit, they break Sienna free, her unleashed fire scorching the ritual circle, but Rasknitt escapes through a collapsing portal, leaving the tower to crumble around them in a cascade of stone and warpstone shards.
Reader's Guide
The campaign begins with the heroes entering the elven tower's outer halls, fighting through Skaven patrols and warpstone traps—vents that spew choking green gas, floors that crackle with unstable energy. They descend into the lower levels, where they find Sienna's prison: a chamber of glowing green crystals and arcane machinery, with her suspended above a central altar, chains of warpstone biting into her wrists. The party must disable the warpstone conduits feeding the ritual—smashing three glowing crystal clusters—while defending against waves of Skaven, including Stormvermin and a Rat Ogre that bursts from a side tunnel. The climax occurs in the ritual chamber, where Rasknitt channels Sienna's power into a swirling vortex that pulls debris and lesser Skaven into its maw. The heroes must break the chains binding Sienna (by attacking the warpstone locks at the altar's base) and disrupt the ritual, forcing Rasknitt to flee through a shimmering portal. The campaign ends with the tower collapsing, the heroes escaping into the forest as the elven spire sinks into a sinkhole of warpstone. SPOILER: Rasknitt's survival sets up his later role in the Chaos Wastes expansion. This campaign expands on the Warhammer Fantasy lore of Skaven using captured wizards for warpstone experiments—a common but rarely depicted tactic, here shown in visceral, personal detail.
Did You Know?
- The elven tower in this campaign is implied to be a former Waystone, a key part of the elven network that channels magical energy across the Old World. Its corruption by Skaven filth is a direct insult to the Wood Elves
- Sienna's capture here is one of the few times a major character is directly used as a power source by the Skaven, highlighting their ruthless ingenuity and the personal stakes for the Bright Wizard.
- The warpstone crystals in the lair are visually distinct from those in other missions, glowing with a sickly green that pulses in time with the ritual—almost like a heartbeat—and casting jagged shadows across the walls.
- Rasknitt's escape here mirrors his pattern in the lore: he is a survivor, always retreating to scheme another day. His survival sets the stage for his return in the Chaos Wastes, where his schemes grow even more desperat
