Purification

Where holy light meets the grave, the dead learn what judgment truly means—and the living remember why they fight.

Purification

Purification is an active skill belonging to the Warrior Priest career for Victor Saltzpyre in Warhammer: Vermintide 2. It channels the holy authority of the Empire's sacred order, creating a healing aura around himself that mends the living and scorches the dead. Within that circle, the dead are burned and the living are restored, making it one of the Warrior Priest's signature tools for holding space in the chaos of a horde fight. As a support-and-damage hybrid, Purification sits at the heart of the Warrior Priest's identity: a man who fights not merely with sword and shield but with the weight of divine judgment pressed into every swing. In co-op play it becomes a reliable anchor point that keeps the team alive while chipping away at the endless tide of the Undead.

Lore & Background

In the grim world of Warhammer, the Undead do not simply rise—they claw their way back through every ruin, every battlefield, every forgotten crypt. For the Warrior Priests of Sigmar, the answer is not merely steel. It is faith made manifest: the belief that the light of the God-King, channeled through prayer, can sear the unnatural from the flesh of the reanimated. Purification is that belief distilled into a single, desperate act—a burst of holy radiance that erupts from the priest himself, enveloping allies and enemies alike in a ring of searing light. Victor Saltzpyre carries this duty as both weapon and prayer. His order was forged in the long wars against the Undead, and every prayer he utters was sanctified in a temple that has seen centuries of the same grim task. The skill is not flashy in the way a blade is; it is methodical, reverent, and utterly merciless to anything that should not be breathing. In the lore of the Empire, such acts of purification are considered sacred service, and the Warrior Priest performs them without hesitation, even when the cost in stamina or time is steep. For the player, Purification embodies the Warrior Priest's dual nature: he is a frontline warrior who also carries the spiritual burden of protecting his companions. The aura he creates is a small pocket of order in a world drowning in the Undead's chaos—a reminder that even in the darkest campaigns, the light holds, if only for a few precious seconds.

In Their Own Story

The corridor of the ruined chapel reeked of rot and old blood. Cross felt the horde pressing behind him, a wall of grey limbs and hollow eyes, and he did not turn. He could not. His shield-arm was locked, his blade singing in a tight arc, buying seconds he did not have. He reached into his belt with his free hand and felt the cold glass of the vial against his knuckles. One. Only one left. "Hold the line, you wretched things," he muttered, and hurled it. The glass shattered against the flagstones in a spray of iridescent water. The circle bloomed outward, white-gold and searing, and the Undead that stumbled into it shrieked—a sound like tearing parchment—as the consecrated ground bit into their reanimated flesh. Beside him, the ranger's bleeding wound hissed and closed. The dwarf grunted, steadied, and swung his hammer again. Cross exhaled. The circle was fading. He would have to be ready for the next one. There would always be a next one.

Reader's Guide

Purification is the Inquisitor's primary area-control tool. When activated, he hurls a vial of holy water that shatters on the ground, creating a circular zone of consecrated earth. Enemies caught inside the zone take continuous damage over its duration, while allied heroes standing within it receive a steady stream of healing. This makes it an excellent tool for holding a chokepoint, covering a teammate who is low on health, or softening a cluster of elites before your next burst. In co-op play, Purification shines when the group is clustered or when a single hero is being swarmed. Position the zone so it overlaps with your allies' positions to maximise the healing benefit, and time the throw so the zone is active when the largest wave of Undead pushes through. Pair it with your other defensive skills to create a layered defence: Purification handles the crowd, your shield or parry handles the stragglers. Because the skill has a cooldown and a limited zone duration, it is best used as a reactive tool rather than a constant. Save it for moments when the team is under pressure, when a boss is about to enrage, or when you need to buy a few seconds to reposition. It is not your primary damage source, but it is your safety net—and in Vermintide 2, a safety net is what keeps the whole party alive.
